Design and Development
“Good design is actually a lot harder to notice than poor design, in part because good designs fit our needs so well that the design is invisible, serving us without drawing attention to itself. Bad design, on the other hand, screams out its inadequacies, making itself very noticeable.“
- Don Norman
Below are artifacts and personal reflections that demonstrate my competencies
Instructional Design and Development Process
Challenge: Select or create an instructional design process based on the nature of the project.
Success Criteria: Evidence of using an instructional design model (ADDIE, Dick and Carey, Assure, Arcs, etc.) that aligns with a project.Reflection must address: How you determined which instructional design model to use and why – list specific examples (state of development, using learning objectives as a reference point, resources available, input from your company, etc.).

Systematic Design
Challenge: Identify and sequence instructional goals.
Success Criteria: Evidence of ordering learning objectives (not course objectives) for a target audience (what an instructor will teach).Reflection must address: How learning objectives were identified and sequenced based on the project or needs assessment (e.g., performance problem identification, learning gaps, content).

Design Instructional Interventions
Challenge: Identify instructional strategies that align with instructional goals and anticipated learning outcomes.
Success Criteria: Evidence of utilizing the best instructional strategies (scaffolding, modeling, cooperative learning, case studies, service learning, etc.) based on the instructional goals and learning outcomes of a project.
Reflection must address: How you determined the instructional strategies based on the instructional goals for the project.

Challenge: Apply appropriate interaction design and interactive learning principles.
Success Criteria: Evidence of implementing interactional pieces of design (user experience, design and balance, efficiency, understanding the interface) in the development of instructional materials.
Reflection must address: Specific examples of interactional pieces in your evidence, and how these specific examples work well in the design.

Select/Modify Existing Instructional Materials
Challenge: Integrate existing instructional materials into the design.
Success Criteria: Evidence of finding pre-existing instructional materials (lectures, readings, textbooks, multimedia components, Open Educational Resources, simulations, and other resources) and adding them into a design choice(s) or instructional plan to increase the learning value of the overall design.
Reflection must address: How adding instructional materials into a design choice or instructional plan increased the value of the overall design (remember to discuss the permission aspects of the preexisting documents – did you obtain permission, copyright, reuse rights, etc.); how you selected the material; why the selected material is appropriate in your design; and/or discussing any evaluation criteria for selection of the materials.

Develop Instructional Materials
Challenge: Develop materials that align with the content analyses, proposed technologies, delivery methods, and instructional strategies.
Success Criteria: Evidence of creating instructional materials based on the design of a project (course, training, etc.) while taking into consideration content analyses, technologies, theories, and strategies.
Reflection must address: How you determined which instructional materials to create based on analysis (proposed technologies, delivery of instruction or instructional strategies).

Design Learning Assessment
Challenge: Ensure that assessment is aligned with instructional goals, anticipated learning outcomes, and instructional strategies.
Success Criteria: Evidence of an assessment measuring and testing knowledge or skills aligned with the course goals, objectives, outcomes, and instructional strategies. Evidence must show an assessment plan (quiz, test, discussions, experiment, worksheet, graphic organizer, assessment framework, etc.).
Reflection must address: How the assessment plan aligns with the course goals, objectives and instructional strategies. Your reflection must include why you selected and developed the assessment method of your choosing.
